Basketball: RHHS boys suffer first loss; girls beat Wade Hampton, clinch region title

Ridgeland-Hardeeville High's quest for an unbeaten boys basketball season is over as the Jaguars lost 59-55 at Wade Hampton on Friday in a Region 8-AAA contest.

The Jaguars (19-1, 6-1 region) were looking to claim their fifth straight region title, but the celebration will have to wait at least another game.
Rashamel Butler had 34 points, 7 rebounds and 4 steals. Damonte Pusha had 9 points.

RHHS can clinch the title if May River beats Bluffton on Saturday or if the Jaguars beat Bluffton at home Thursday in the regular-season finale, which was previously scheduled for Tuesday.

RHHS, ranked No. 1 in the state Class AAA coaches poll, defeated Bluffton (14-7, 4-2 region ) 60-51 on Jan. 19. 

The Jaguar girls won their fourth consecutive region crown by defeating Wade Hampton 48-23. RHHS (13-3, 6-1) is ranked third in the state.
