THA, RHHS football teams honored

  • Carmen Pinckney/Special to JCST Zach Bond was the SCISA Region 2-A defensive player of the year.
  • Derald Nelson Jr., was recognized as an all-SCHSL Region 8-AAA selection.

Thomas Heyward’s football program has earned accolades. Quarterback Logan Thomas was named SCISA Region 2-A offensive player of the year, Zach Bond was named defensive player of the year and Nic Shuford was named the region’s top coach.

Thomas and Bond were also named to the North-South all-star game.

Other first-team all-region selections were J.R. Patterson, Jake Masters, Zack Black, Evan Brazil, Pablo Orozco, John Hewlett, Timber Hexamer and River Pender.

Second-team all-region selections were Chipper Hammond, Luke Bond, Therion Cannon, Joe Gibson and Bryce Tillotson.

The Rebels were 9-3 this season and won the region title.

Ridgeland-Hardeeville High’s team was recognized with all-SCHSL Region 8-AAA selections for Derald Nelson Jr., Myles Pinckney and Jertaveon Smalls.
