Letter to the editor: Punkin had lasting impact on Step of Faith principal

In the 25 years that I’ve known Ms. Punkin, she greatly impacted my life. I first knew her from Mr. Billy’s shop, and then as a photographer for my young children.

In 1999 when Step of Faith needed a photographer for the first-ever school pictures, kindergarten teacher Carol Bradham insisted on her longtime friend, Ms. Punkin. From the very beginning, Ms. Punkin’s no nonsense, spirited manner of handling both children and adults established a foundation for our partnership and friendship. Ms. Punkin modeled honesty, integrity, passion, and love.

She was gifted at capturing the best of us through her camera lens, and it was her joy to share her art with all of us. We — all of Jasper County — have priceless pictures and videos of our loved ones because of Ms. Punkin.

Her unselfish spirit gave generously of her time and talent to all, without regard to “position.” She did her best no matter whom, no matter what, no matter when.

She was quite a lady; a devoted wife, a loving mother, a successful business owner and a caring friend. As women, it is challenging to balance all the demands of busy lives. She did so with feisty finesse.

I am blessed because God crossed our lives. I am grateful that many years ago, Ms. Punkin chose me. She took me under her wing and modeled character, acceptance and work ethic. She believed in me personally. She loved me. I am a better woman because of her.
