Christmas parades kick off holiday season
Ridgeland and Hardeeville’s Christmas parades this week kick off the holiday season.
The Greater Hardeeville Chamber of Commerce’s parade is 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9.
The route begins at Hummingbird Lane and will travel from Whyte Hardee Boulevard to Main Street. The parade will lead to City Hall and end just past Randall Street.
The theme is “Christmas Around the World.”
The grand marshal of Hardeeville’s parade is MaryCharles Davis-Moyd.
“Mary has been involved heavily in addressing the housing issues and food insecurities in Hardeeville,” said Ava Comer, executive director of the Greater Hardeeville Chamber of Commerce. “Her volunteer coordination skills are amazing. She is an active member of the Hardeeville Lions Club and as such helps local people receive assistance with eye care. She also distributes care packages assembled by the club to homeless individuals containing personal care items. I could not be more pleased with the GHCC board of directors choice.”
After Hardeeville’s parade is the city’s Christmas tree lighting ceremony at City Hall.
The town’s parade in Ridgeland — originally set for Thursday, Dec. 7. — has been rescheduled for 6 p.m. Dec. 21. The town said after the parade there will be entertainment at the downtown Farmers Market on Main Street. There will be free cookies and hot chocolate. The cookies are compliments of Lou Sherman’s Piggly Wiggly.
Town Finance Director Sharon Boyles, who plans to retire June 2018, is the parade grand marshal. Boyles has worked for the town for 32 years.
The Blue Heron Nature Center on Bailey Lane will also feature Christmas lights.
